The MTA and the District are dedicated to making sure the increase in collaboration days yields positive results. To that end, we are asking for your input on what is working, what isn’t working, and what you think should be done to improve collaboration. Newly adopted contract language in Article IV, Section C9 states:

“In order to evaluate and improve the collaboration process, the Association and District shall jointly survey bargaining unit members in November and May of each year regarding the effectiveness of the collaboration structure and/or activities. The survey results shall be collected and disseminated in the aggregate (District-wide), rather than by school site. The joint intent of the survey will be to assist site administration and leadership teams in supporting effective collaboration. The initial survey will occur in spring 2019.”

After conferring with MTA, the District sent out a confidential survey to your district email. Your input is vital. Whether you think collaboration is positive or a complete waste of time, we need to hear from you. Please answer the short, confidential survey when you get a chance. This data will provide the baseline for how effective and worthwhile collaboration is currently in this District and will guide decision-making going forward.

Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month

The theme of this year’s Heritage Month is Unite Our Mission by Engaging Each Other.

According to the US Census Bureau, Asians and Pacific Islanders make up the fastest growing racial group in the United States, numbering more than 10 million people, or nearly 4 percent of the total population. The diverse Asian American and Pacific Islander American population includes members of more than 30 ethnic groups who speak more than 300 languages and dialects.

Here is the implementation timeline of the raises resulting from the agreements with MTA and MCS:

• The 3% monthly increase was included in April paychecks

• The 3% retro payment for July 2018-March 2019 is scheduled for May 24

• The 1% off the salary schedule payment for 2018-2019 is scheduled for July 23
